People often ask me, "Where do your ideas come from?" The honest answer is: they start as a quiet thought — a nudge, a feeling, sometimes a question I can't stop asking myself. That's where every book begins for me.
The image above is "The Hand of God" — a canvas print gifted to me by an employee at exactly the right moment in my journey. It became an unexpected source of inspiration for a chapter in Beyond the Shores. Sometimes the message you need finds you before you know you need it.
It Starts with a Thought
Before a single word hits the page, there's a moment of stillness. A thought surfaces — maybe something I've been wrestling with in my own faith walk, or a truth I keep circling back to. I don't chase it right away. I sit with it. I let it breathe. Both of my books, Beyond the Shores and One Blood One Road, started exactly this way.
Finding the Storyline
Once I have that seed of a thought, I start to expand it. What's the bigger picture here? Is there a journey in this idea? A transformation? With Beyond the Shores, the thought of surrender kept returning — what it means to truly let go and trust God beyond what you can see. With One Blood One Road, it was the idea of unity and shared purpose across difference. The storyline finds its shape when I stop trying to force it and simply follow the thread.
The Reader Test
Here's a question I always ask myself before going further: If I'm moved by this, will others be too? This isn't about ego — it's about connection. Writing is only meaningful if it reaches someone. I think about the reader who might be in the middle of their own storm, their own crossroads. Would this story speak to them? With both books, the answer was yes — and that "yes" is what pushed me forward.
Laying Out the Chapters
Once the storyline is solid and the reader test is passed, I map out the chapters. Think of it as building a road — each chapter is a mile marker on the journey. I want readers to feel like they're moving somewhere, growing with every page. For Beyond the Shores, the chapters unfold like a spiritual progression: from resistance, to release, to renewal. For One Blood One Road, they trace a path from division to discovery to deeper purpose.
Why Faith Drives Everything
I write because I believe words have the power to shift perspective, soften hearts, and point people toward something greater than themselves. Every book I write is an act of faith — trusting that the message I've been given is meant for someone who needs it.
If you haven't picked up Beyond the Shores or One Blood One Road yet, I invite you to start there. These aren't just books — they're invitations to grow.
